Gaming has been around for centuries, but only recently has it become such a popular industry and pastime. Early gaming was played in the form of board games, card games, and even dice games. Some of these games, such as chess, have been around since the Middle Ages. The first video game was created in 1958, and was a simple game called "Tennis for Two". This game was made on an oscilloscope and was played on a small screen. This primitive game gave rise to the development of the first arcade games in the early 1970s. After the success of arcade games, the first home video game console was released in 1972. This console, the Magnavox Odyssey, was the start of the modern gaming industry. The 1980s saw the rise of the gaming industry. Many iconic games were released during this time, such as Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Space Invaders. This was also the era of the first home computers, which allowed gaming to spread to the home. The 1990s saw the emergence of 3D gaming and the rise of the internet. This allowed for the development of massively multiplayer online games such as Ultima Online, Everquest, and World of Warcraft. This was also the era of console gaming, with the release of the Sony PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and Sega Dreamcast. Today, gaming is bigger than ever. With the rise of the internet, mobile gaming, and the development of virtual reality technology, the gaming industry has grown to become a multi-billion dollar industry. With so many types of games to choose from, there is something for everyone.
