The Sega Game Gear was a handheld video game system first released in Japan in 1990 and in North America in 1991. It was the successor to Sega's Master System and was marketed as a handheld version of the Sega Genesis. It was the first handheld video game console to feature a full-color display and was capable of displaying up to 32 colors at once. It had a library of over 300 games released for it, ranging from original titles to ports from various Sega consoles. It was powered by 4 AA batteries or an AC adapter, and was compatible with a range of peripherals, including a TV Tuner and a light gun. The console was discontinued in 1997, but its library of games still lives on today.
